The Indonesian government is providing assistance to underprivileged families ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, announced that 10 kilograms of rice would be distributed to 21 million underprivileged families to ensure they could still enjoy the celebrations. The holiday is predicted to fall on April 22, 2023, and the government wants to ensure all citizens can feel the joy during the holy day. With the number of travelers expected to increase this year, Effendy also stated that the government has decided on the tagline “Safe and Memorable Homecoming” for traffic management during the exodus period. To reduce accidents during the holiday period, President Joko Widodo has instructed all ministries and institutions to prepare and ensure good traffic management. The President has also extended the Eid al-Fitr collective leave days from April 21-26 to April 19-25 to provide additional holidays for employees. Additionally, discounts on air travel and toll fares would be offered during the exodus period to lessen expenses for those traveling. The Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, has announced that a 20% discount would be provided on various dates around Eid al-Fitr.
