The President of the Republic of Benin, Mr. Patrice TALON, announced on Wednesday April 5, 2023 a technical reorganization within two ministries of his Government. This change was transmitted to the President of the National Assembly, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.

According to the details provided by the Secretary General of the Government, the Cooperation component, which was previously under the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been removed from its portfolio and transferred to the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Accordingly, the Ministry of Economy and Finance becomes the new Ministry of Foreign Affairs according to the statement. The current holders of the two ministerial portfolios remain in office and the name of the Ministry of Economy and Finance does not change.

This decision comes within the framework of the Beninese government’s desire to strengthen its economic cooperation with international partners and to promote better management of public finances. It is also part of a drive to modernize Benin’s public administration, aiming for better coordination and more effective management of public policies.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will henceforth be responsible for coordinating Benin’s diplomatic relations with other countries and international organizations. As for the Ministry of Economy and Finance, it will be responsible for supervising the country’s economic and financial policies, as well as managing economic and financial relations with international partners.
