Jakob Ingebrigtsen beats Pedro Pichardo in the March European athlete election – Sports

Jakob Ingebrigtsen, double champion in the ‘indoor’ Europeans that took place in Istanbul, beat Pedro Pichardo in the election for European athlete in March, while Nafissatou Thiam, new world record holder of the indoor pentathlon, was elected female.

The voting took place until this Thursday in the publications dedicated to each of the categories on the official account of European Athletics, the European body of the sport, on the Instagram social network.

Portuguese Pedro Pablo Pichardo was among the four athletes nominated after winning his second European indoor triple jump champion title in his career, in Istanbul.

The choice ended up being the Norwegian middle distance runner, who won two titles at the same Europeans, the 1,500 and 3,000 metres.

The other two men’s finalists were also Norwegian Sondre Guttormsen, who took advantage of the absence of Swede Armand Duplantis to become European pole vault champion, and Italian Samuele Ceccarelli, winner of 60 meters, ahead of Olympic champion and compatriot Marcel Jacobs.

The Belgian Nafissatou Thiam, the new pentathlon world record holder, with 5,055 points, the only world record obtained in Istanbul, confirmed her favoritism.

The list published by European Athletics also included the Dutch Femke Bol, European champion in the 400 meters and 4×400 meters, the Swiss Mujinga Kambundji, who won the 60 meters title, and the British Jazmin Sawyers, who made the best mark in the world in the year in the long jump with 7.00 meters, winning gold in Istanbul.
