US Unemployment Benefit Registrations Drop by 18,000

(CercleFinance.com) – Registrations for unemployment benefits in the United States fell by 18,000 the week of March 27, thus settling at 228,000 against 246,000 the previous week (figure significantly revised from the 198,000 announced the last week, due to a change in the calculation methodology, says the Labor Department).

Furthermore, the four-week moving average – considered a better indicator of the underlying trend in the job market – came out at 237,750, down from 4,250 from one week to the next (again the level of the previous week was significantly revised from 198,250 to 242,000 due to changes in calculation methodology).

Finally, the number of people regularly receiving benefits increased by 6,000 to reach 1,823,000 (revised figure from 1,689,000) during the week of March 20, the last week available for this statistic.
