In Russia, 153,477 new passenger cars were sold in the first quarter of 2023, according to the Association of European Businesses (AEB). This figure is 44.7% less than in the same month last year.
As for March 2023, during this time 48,414 cars were sold in Russia, which is 10.6% less than in 2022. At the same time, last month, new car sales were higher than February 2023. Then 41,851 cars were sold in the country.
In the first quarter of this year, most of the companies included in the top 10 most popular brands from AEB showed an increase in sales. The leader of the domestic market remains the domestic AvtoVAZ, which sold 64,240 new cars, which is 22% more than a year earlier. In second place is the Chinese Chery with 18,927 cars sold (+204%). Haval closes the top three – the company’s sales increased by 100%, to 16,639 units.
Geely is on the fourth position. During the first three months, they were able to sell 12,673 vehicles on our market. This figure is 129% more than in the first quarter of 2022. The top five is closed by the commercial division of GAZ, which was able to sell 9,553 vehicles (+2%).
As for individual models, in the first quarter the first place among the bestsellers was traditionally taken by Lada Granta. For three months, the Russians bought 44,416 of these cars. For example, a year ago, 15,179 Lada Grantas were sold on our market. In second place is Lada Niva, which sold 18,006 copies against 9,307 SUVs a year earlier. The first three are closed by Haval Jolion cars (7,341).
