It was made by the provinces of the Central Region: Santa Fe, Córdoba and Entre Ríos. The sector suffers seriously from the consequences of the drought

The governments of Santa Fe, Córdoba and Entre Ríos asked the national government to declare dairy as a regional economy, considering that this activity is “a tool to promote economic growth in the Central Region«.
The request was formulated by the governors Omar Perotti (Santa Fe), Juan Schiaretti (Córdoba) and Gustavo Bordet (Entre Ríos) through a note sent to the National Secretary of Agriculture, Juan José Bahillo.
The heads of the three provinces maintain that “this will allow the consolidation of this activity as a tool to promote growth economy of the Central Region.
The measure, initially promoted by the Ministry of Production, Science and Technology of Santa Fe in 2021, “has strategic importance for that province, the Santa Fe government informed the press.
The minister of that portfolio, Daniel Costamagna, said that “this is an activity that has a capital importance in establishing roots, inclusion and adding value. The dairy is a fundamental piece of the history of Santa Fe and the region », he stressed.
«Hoy is going through a complex moment in terms of production, with a severe drought, which is one of the most important in recent times, and a sharp increase in production costs,” explained the official, for which he considered that “it is essential that the national government make this statement, so that no tambo closes and so that the economic equation of the dairy companies in the Central Region allows them to continue working, growing, investing and being part of this productive diversification, job creation and added value”.
Finally, Costamagna added that, as justified by the governors in the letter sent to the Nation, the territories of the three provinces “concentrate more than 70% of the dairy farms” in the countryTherefore, this region “is the most important dairy basin in South America.”
The governors explained in their note that the three provinces “produced 8,100 million liters of milk during 2022, more than 70% of the national total, in a network that accumulates 7,300 dairy farms and 44,000 direct jobs.” Also, “more than 260 associated companies in the processing and elaboration of dairy foods”, point out the provincial leaders.
