So what are the obstacles in Japan that many citizens are reluctant to have children?
It is known that the high cost of living is one of the main factors that make many people in Japan not want to have children. As is known, Japan is the third most expensive country for raising children, its position is below China and South Korea.
In addition, many Japanese people, especially women, have high career ambitions. So many of them choose not to have children because they feel burdened.
“Raising children really costs a lot of money,” said one Japanese resident, Chika Hashimoto.
“It’s not easy for Japanese women to balance careers and raising a family because we have to choose between the two,” she continued.
