The latest Steam update for Fallout 4 has a reference to “New Vegas 2,” and while that fact has almost nothing to do with the second part of the series they’ve been begging for years, everyone’s still desperate to know why.
Steam app updates are usually publicly visible thanks to third-party tools such as SteamDB. Among other things, it is possible to see beta versions and other alternative versions of the game, such as those available to testers or pushing towards the launch of the game, even when these offshoots are not intended to be publicly available.
A new branch of Fallout 4 titled “newvegas2” It appeared yesterday on SteamDB (Opens in a new tab). As you might imagine, this is causing some stir. The original New Vegas, a Fallout 3 spin-off developed by RPG Legends Obsidian, is a standout entry in the series, beloved for its story and commitment to offering players choices with meaningful consequences.
This does not mean that New Vegas 2 is in development. These branches can be called anything, because these names are only for the people who are invited to them. We know Fallout 4 will be getting a next-gen update sometime in 2023, and there’s a reasonable chance that this is just an internal test run for this cheeky-named update.
We’ve reached out to Bethesda for comment and will update if we learn more. (Don’t worry, if we somehow get the New Vegas 2 ad scoop out of all this, we’ll be sure to post something about it.)
With all that said, hopes that we will one day see New Vegas 2 are completely unfounded, as reports have indicated that Microsoft is interested in bringing such a game to life. However, for his part, Obsidian has said time and again that while the idea of returning to Fallout is exciting, it has too much right now to commit to something like New Vegas 2.
sorry people, starfield This is likely the closest you’ll get to a new Fallout for the foreseeable future.
