The Jonava Sports Center (JSC) is suspending funding for the indoor soccer club “Vikingai” until the club takes responsibility and expresses a clear position regarding the unsportsmanlike behavior of its captain, Ben Spietinis.
Such a decision was made by the Sports Club Program Funding Commission of the Jonava District Municipality, the municipality reports. With this decision, JSC will suspend 37 thousand EUR payment for 2023 To fund the Vikings’ sports program.
The behavior of “Vikings” captain B. Spietinis towards the players of “Kaunas Žalgiris” is completely incompatible with the values of our city and Jonava sports community. The Sports City of Jonava does not tolerate and will never support unsportsmanlike behavior, and will always set the highest standards of honor and morality for the athletes representing Jonava. The statement issued by the club, which seems to be aimed at justifying the behavior of its player, is also unacceptable,” according to the protocol of the commission.
According to the “Kaunas Žalgiris” club, on Monday late in the evening a footballer from Jonava B. Spietinis arrived in Kaunas and attacked the footballers of the “Kaunas Žalgiris” club from Brazil living here. The Kaunas club appealed to the police, and a pre-trial investigation was launched into the actions of the Jonava team player.
