Tape Planted by Cuban director Lilo Vilaplana achieved significant success for exile cinema in recent years, by achieving its first month in commercial theaters.
After triumphing among audiences and critics at the Miami International Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award and the Award for Best Film Made in Miami, the film reached private theaters for a week.
Through the Silverspot Cinema and CMX Cinema chains, the film was able to be shown commercially, but the great success of the film led them to extend that period up to two more times.
Due to the great attendance, the period of the film in theaters was renewed for the fourth time, and it is thus that CMX Cinema of Dolphin Mall will keep it between its functions at least until next April 13.
This fact is unprecedented for another film produced by Cuban exiles, since the film not only remained on commercial billboards for a full month, but also consolidated itself as one of the most successful films of the season.
The film kept competing with the big releases from production companies like Marvel, with Ant-Man: Quantumaníay Dreamworks con The cat with bootsand even with the blockbuster fourth installment of the saga John Wick.
In this sense, the director Lilo Vilaplana commented to Cuban newspaper how proud he is of the reception it has had, and that it can stay on display, something that auteur cinema constantly struggles with all over the world.
“That is very good for independent cinema, we are competing against the Hollywood blockbusters, the premieres! And we hold ourselves in the first places, among the highest grossing films of the moment, ”he said.
Vilaplana had already mentioned before the precedent that this success represents for exile cinema in MiamiWell, now Cuban cinema is beginning to be a reference.
But Planted Not only did it manage to stay on the billboards in Miami for a month, but it also managed to reach the city of Tampa, where its exhibition will begin this week at the Regal Citrus cinema.
Due to the high demand, it is possible that the film could soon be shown in other cities, as the director indicated that it has been requested from outside Florida, from Houston, New Jersey and Kentucky, and even from abroad.
