Neither of them mentioned the Ukraine war in their opening remarks, but the two will, according to the Kremlin, talk about Lukashenko’s call for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, which came last week.

Putin said in March that Russia will deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.

– I must say that we have done a lot through our cooperation in all areas, Putin told Lukashenko in comments shown on state television.

– We will discuss all this tomorrow, it concerns our cooperation in the international arena and together ensuring the security of our states, he added.

Russia is Belarus’ closest ally and most important economic supporter, and Lukashenko allowed Putin to use Belarusian territory as a launching pad for the invasion of Ukraine last February.
