At the Padma Awards ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, a heartwarming exchange between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bidri craft artist, Shah Rasheed Ahmed Quadri, became one of the highlights of the event. Upon receiving the Padma Shri award, Quadri told PM Modi that he believed he wouldn’t receive the award under the BJP government’s rule. However, he expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and said that he proved him wrong. The Prime Minister reciprocated with a namaste and a smile. The ceremony also saw the awarding of Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri to several individuals in various disciplines and activities such as art, public affairs, science and engineering, and sports, among others.
Craft artist Shah Rasheed Ahmed Quadri shook hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed gratitude for receiving the Padma Shri award, which he believed he would not receive under BJP rule. The Padma Awards ceremony also saw former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and author-philanthropist Sudha Murty receive the Padma Vibhushan award.
