Svåra val för Eriksson, Harder, Zigiotti Olme and Kullberg
MALMÖ/STOCKHOLM. Difficult choices await two soccer couples this summer.
Magdalena Eriksson continue to play with Pernille Harder.
– We believe that the best thing for us in terms of football is to stick together, says Eriksson.
Magdalena Eriksson’s contract with Chelsea expires in the summer and she has been clear about what she wants the future to look like.
Eriksson wants the Danish partner, teammate and superstar Pernille Harder to move with him to the next club address if there is a departure from Chelsea.
“What we want”
Eriksson’s wish has led to a small debate in England, but she doesn’t care about that.
– Those are our personal preferences and that’s how we reason. Then people can think what they want about it, I actually don’t care about that, she says.
– There is no requirement on my and Pernille’s part. It’s not that harsh, it’s just a preference and something we’d prefer. Then people will always have opinions about it, but that’s what we believe will make us the best footballers. That’s what we want.
The highest priority is that the club’s decision should be good in terms of football.
– It will always be a priority for us and we believe that the best thing for us in terms of football is to stick together. We know that we are both at a very high level.
The Swedish couple in the same position
Even for the all-Swedish love couple in the Women’s Super League, the contracts expire. Julia Zigiotti Olme and Emma Kullberg are currently fighting for Brighton to pass a new contract in the league, but then they are both free on the market this summer.
– In a dream host, it is clear that we play together and can live together, says Zigiotti Olme.
– Football is what it is and you can’t have everything you want, but it’s clear that you need to find something that’s good for yourself and for your private life. It’s a tough road but we have good agents working for us.
“Always some headlines”
Zigiotti Olme does not think that she herself can demand that a club that wants to sign her should also sign Emma Kullberg. But she thinks other people should respect Eriksson’s and Harder’s wishes.
– There are always some headlines when there are two big footballers who go out and say something. But it is what it is and they have the demands they have. I think you have to respect that, says Zigiotti Olme.
