Since Monday April 3, the European Metropolis of Lille (MEL) has launched an experiment aimed at decongesting the A1 and A23 motorways which join its territory. Volunteers in the program will be paid hard cash!
No longer making trips behind the wheel and thus earning money, this is the original initiative of the European Metropolis of Lille (MEL), hailed by the association “40 million motorists“. In this case, since Monday April 3, regular users of the axes covering the A1 motorways (the busiest in France) and A23, are invited to volunteer to no longer make their usual journeys there at the wheel of their vehicle during peak hours (between 7am and 9am and/or in the evening between 4.30pm and 6.30pm) and thus… receive an ecobonus in return, in other words money!
A cost of 11 million
Certainly, the allocated sum will not make you richer with a amount fixed at 2 euros per trip (80 euros per month maximum) but, nevertheless, this “positive and incentive solution, rather than introducing new constraints or prohibitions” is to be underlined, rightly recalls “40 million motorists”. So, if you feel like it and you are concerned by these journeys, each candidate for this experiment (including the cost for the MEL is estimated at around 11 million euros) a until next May 12 to register on this dedicated platform, before the actual operation starts in September 2023.
