House Speaker Kevin McCarthy will meet with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen at the Ronald Reagan Library near Los Angeles on the 5th.
Prior to visiting Guatemala and Belize in Central America, President Tsai passed through New York and stopped in California on the way home, staying at a hotel in downtown Los Angeles on the 4th.

Chairman McCarthy, along with members of both parties, will meet President Tsai to reaffirm the need to strengthen cooperation.
It is the first time that the speaker of the House of Representatives and the president of Taiwan have met on the mainland, according to US media.
Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Maoning reaffirmed China’s opposition to the meeting between President Tsai and Chairman McCarthy on the 4th.
Spokesperson Mao urged the United States not to “arrange any meetings or contacts between President Tsai and US politicians and officials”, calling the schedule a violation of the “One China” principle.
