ASome animals are born with a normal body constitution. Often these animals are born with some of the normal organs missing and others with more. Humans are born with such abnormalities. Some of the animals born like this survive and others die young. If these animals lose their normality, other animals in the herd do not join them and their survival is in jeopardy.
A hen at Kyrie Hobby Farm near North Queensland, Australia is currently going through such a crisis. What makes this chicken different from other chickens is its four legs. The owner of the farm says that because of this abnormality, the other chickens do not add her to their flock. Other chickens constantly attack and injure it. This chicken is suffering from polymelia (a rare condition in which one or more extra organs grow).

The unusual chicken came to the attention of animal lovers last week when Jess Leeming, owner of Kyrie Hobby Farm, described his chicken’s condition on his social media page. The owner wrote on social media that he was saddened that other chickens were hunting him and attacking him. He wrote thus.’ I have a four-legged chicken. Anyone interested in taking it on? She has a wound on her spine. I think her days are limited unless someone takes her on. He also warned that the unusual chicken may face attacks from other creatures. However, he added, the two extra legs did not appear to be a problem for the hen.
Jess Leeming later said that after posting about it on social media, some insulting comments were made towards the chicken. Several people made comments on the post making fun of the chicken. I have seen dog and cat lovers. Many people commented that this is for a chicken. However, realizing the chicken’s helpless condition, local wildlife conservationist Olive Needham volunteered to take the chicken in. He also added that surgery would solve the chicken problem. Following this, the Australian Department of Animal Welfare said that the chicken will move to a new home.
