Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma has encouraged the Catholic community to spend Holy Week in reflection and prayer at church. He emphasised the importance of reflecting on the Lord’s sacrifice during the most important period in the Church’s liturgical calendar. Palma acknowledged the desire for some people to take time off and go on vacation, but asked that they “ponder upon God’s great love for us” as a way to renew their relationship with God. He stressed the importance of turning to church activities to appreciate God’s “all-encompassing love,” and called on people to attend church events instead of visiting the beach. Palma also reminded people that unlike in 2020 and 2021, all churches are now open to accommodate the faithful. The Holy Week began with Palm Sunday, and will conclude with Easter Sunday, marking the 40-day season of Lent. Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police have warned people not to post photos of their travels on social media during the holiday period to avoid tipping off burglars.
