MathWorks, the leading developer of mathematical calculation software, joins the program UR+the industry’s largest and most comprehensive ecosystem of products certified to seamlessly integrate with cobots from Universal Robots (UR). MathWorks received UR+ certification for MATLABa numerical computing and programming platform that provides software tools and algorithms for designing, simulating, testing, and deploying robotics applications, including those for Universal Robots cobots.
Robotics engineering teams use MATLAB for specialized, sophisticated, or difficult-to-program cobot applications using UR’s handheld console or graphical programming tools, including applications incorporating machine learning, deep learning, machine vision, optimization, sensor fusion and advanced signal processing. MATLAB’s sophisticated robot algorithms and AI capabilities enable cobots to perceive and adapt to dynamically changing workspaces, and to move more efficiently and productively. UR cobot applications can be verified by connecting MATLAB to URSim, a simulation software for robot programs, or UR hardware. MATLAB support for Universal Robots is compatible with Universal Robots e and CB series.
“We are pleased to welcome MathWorks to our ecosystem of UR+ solutions. This collaboration will certainly help simplify the most complex cobot deployments,” said Christopher Savoia, UR+ ecosystem manager at Universal Robots.
Using MATLAB to program and simulate cobots offline reduces downtime when programming using local robots. In addition, robotics engineering teams can deploy robotic AI models and algorithms via C++ code generation directly to embedded target platforms, such as GPU boards, with MATLAB Coder™ and Simulink Coder™ for hardware-accelerated, independent execution. UR.
“With Universal Robots’ market leadership and the ability of MATLAB and Simulink to accelerate the pace of innovation, integration teams and end users will be able to solve the most complex automation workflows,” said Dominic Viens, director of MathWorks Design Automation Marketing. “UR’s hardware support package reduces time to market for advanced cobot applications that require the integration of multiple complex technologies. In this way, small and medium-scale manufacturers can adopt deep technology stacks at a much lower cost than hiring external consultants.”
