Our sun is a giant ball of gas that produces energy by thermal fusion of hydrogen into helium. This energy is sent out into space isotropically, that is, homogeneously, in the form of light, made up of photons, at a speed of more than 300,000 km / h.

This light is multicolored because it contains all shades of colour, as seen when there is a rainbow, it propagates in a straight line, until it encounters something in its path.

For example, the moon does not create its own light, if we see it in the sky at night, it is thanks to the sun’s rays hitting it and sending us some rays. Same with heaven on earth. When the rays pass through the atmosphere, they collide with the molecules that make it up: oxygen and nitrogen, as well as dust, water…etc.

In space, none of that, there is nothing! No water, no oxygen, just a void between the stars. Nothing can block the light for it to resonate. So it continues on its way without being visible to the human eye. This is why the sun does not illuminate space.

Olbers’ paradox is named after the German astronomer H.E. If the universe were made of an infinite number of stars, then the sky should be colored, not black. Light is sent through space and travels continuously in that same space if it encounters no obstacle; Because photons have no mass.

So even the light from the most distant stars must reach us. Thus, the night sky should not be dark but completely lit, but it is not.

This paradox proves that the universe is not infinite, nor is there an infinite number of stars. So there is a limit to the universe, and according to recent research the universe is expanding. There are also standards for the distance and age of stars. In fact, some stars located billions of light-years away from our planet send their light to us.

But the time it takes for this light to travel through space is a very long time (millions, billions of years). So, the starlight in the sky that we receive is the light of the past. You can even see a star that has already died out, and that’s the second factor: stars are not eternal, they are born and die. This is why neither the sun nor any other star in the universe illuminates space.
