An artist known as “Spicebag” has caused controversy by sharing images on social media that include a depiction of gardaí taking part in an eviction during the famine era, a garda with a pig’s head, and a burning Police Service of Northern Ireland van. Sinn Féin’s housing spokesman shared the work of “Spicebag”, who also produced a cartoon of former Northern Ireland First Minister Arlene Foster strapped to a rocket on top of a bonfire. The artist has accused gardaí of protecting bailiffs at a recent eviction, adding: “These are the same Gards who will ignore 3000 domestic violence calls, but if, god forbid, a property developer doesn’t get their way, they’ll be on it like a fly on shite”. The artist denies creating the image of the Garda with the pig’s face, stating it was created by another campaign group.
