Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Astronomers have discovered a giant black hole. In fact, it is reported that its size is larger than the Sun.
The sizes of black holes in this universe are indeed diverse. Some are several times the mass of the Sun so that some are very large in size supermassive black hole that is, millions of times the mass of the Sun.
But the latest findings managed to break the record. The research team found a black hole with a size of 30 billion times the mass of the Sun, quoted from SlashGear, Monday (3/4/2023).
The object was discovered by astronomers from the University Society published in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
Lead author James Nightingale of the University of Durham described the size of the black hole his team discovered as one of the largest ever discovered.
“This particular black hole, approximately 30 billion times the mass of our sun, is one of the largest ever detected and is at the limit of how big a black hole can be theoretically believed to be, so it’s a very exciting discovery,” he said.
Astronomers find black holes using supercomputers and the Hubble Space Telescope. The team used a new method of identifying large masses through modeling.
SlashGear recorded modeling using the DiRAC HPC supercomputer facility or Distributed Research using Advanced Computing – High Performance Computing.
This is astronomical modeling and particle physics. That way the researchers can model the bending of light around the black hole.
