CDC Issues Strong Warning as Mortality Rate Surpasses 12 Victims in Africa Due to Marburg Virus, a Rare and Deadly Disease



TANZANIA, DISWAY.ID — Marburg virus disease is a rare disease of dengue fever, but causes death with a 50% mortality rate.



The Marburg virus was discovered for the first time in 1967.

Until now there have been 593 cases recorded in various countries in the world, 481 of whom have been confirmed dead.

Since February 2023, two countries in Africa, namely Guinea and Tanzania, have been exposed to the Marburg virus which killed 12 of their citizens.

Because of this, the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will send members to help victims exposed to the Marburg virus and try to eradicate it.

The CDC warns that Marburg is a “rare and fatal disease” that can be spread by contaminated objects and animals, such as fruit bats and primates.



The CDC also plans to post notices at international airports to alert people to symptoms of the disease.

Symptoms include fever, headache, chills, muscle aches, sore throat, rash, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, chest pain, and unexplained bleeding or bruising.

In addition to the CDC, WHO has also warned against limiting any travel and trade with countries that are currently suffering from the Marburg virus.

The WHO explained that the first case identified in Tanzania was identified as the first patient who contracted it after traveling from the island of Goziba in Lake Victoria to another part of the country.

As of this March, there are still new cases discovered related to the Marburg virus.
