Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Social media activists circulated a video clip of a person swimming in a forbidden place, which led to his drowning, before the border guards in Makkah intervened and rescued him, which sparked an interaction.
The Saudi Ministry of Interior published the video clip on its Snapchat page.
For its part, the Saudi Border Guard Department said in a statement published on its official page on Twitter: “The Border Guard in Makkah Al-Mukarramah initiated an incident that violated the security and safety regulations for practitioners of maritime activities. He was rescued by the search and rescue team, and he is in good health, and legal measures have been taken against them.”
The statement added: “The General Directorate of Border Guard called on all hikers to take caution and follow the guidelines and instructions of marine safety and adhere to swimming in the designated places…”
