21 parties and coalitions nominated candidates for the 240-member parliament in the election, which will be attended by approximately 6 million 600 thousand registered voters at home and abroad.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that ballot boxes will be set up at 12 thousand points in the country and 738 points in 62 countries abroad.
Bulgarian citizens living in Turkey will also be able to vote at 162 points.
Voting will be possible with paper compass and machine.
The Ministry of Interior took extensive security measures due to the election. The Ministry announced that the voting process started smoothly.
According to the polls made on the eve of the election, at least 5 political parties will enter the parliament by exceeding the 4 percent threshold.
DISTRIBUTION OF POWERS IN THE PARLIAMENT
According to the latest poll by Trend opinion research company, the coalition made up of the Democratic Bulgaria party and the Continue to Change party, which received 26 percent of the votes, was led by one of the former prime ministers, Boyko Borisov, who ruled the country for 12 years (until 2021), and Bulgaria’s European Union, again, 26 percent. It is estimated that the Citizens for Development party will receive it.
The Movement for Rights and Freedom party, whose members are mostly Turks and Muslims, is expected to receive at least 13 percent of the votes, and is expected to become the third largest power in the parliament.
Bulgarian immigrants living in Turkey traditionally vote for this party.
It is estimated that the anti-NATO and European Union, pro-Russian, populist Rebirth party will also receive close to 13 percent of the votes.
The Bulgarian Socialist Party, which is also pro-Russian and carries out politics along the lines of the former communist party, is expected to enter the parliament with 7.3 percent of the votes.
Since the parties represented in the last four parliaments in Bulgaria could not form a government, the country has been governed by interim governments established by President Rumen Radev for 2 years.
The turnout is expected to be around 40 percent.
The polls will close at 20:00.
