The incident happened near the historic pre-Columbian city of Teotihuacan, an hour’s drive from Mexico City. In addition to the two dead, a third person was injured.
Cries for help
The images clearly show how people cry for help as the balloon continues to rise. Other visitors to the historic city can’t help it, some are recording.
The images can be experienced as shocking:
Teotihuacan receives thousands of tourists every day. Balloon rides are offered by several companies in the area.
Hot air balloon accidents are more common in this region. In September, a hot air balloon with 12 people on board was hit by strong gusts of wind, the pilot lost control and the balloon fell down. The passengers escaped unscathed. In November 2021, nine passengers were injured when a hot air balloon crashed.
