Prevention is better than cure. That is why Camino is organizing a theme evening on April 13, with the subject ‘The importance of vaccination to prevent cervical cancer’ on Thursday, April 13, 2023 with a walk-in from 7:30 PM, presentation starts at 8:00 PM. The evening is in Centrum Camino at Schoolstraat 11 in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel.
Cervical cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women
The Netherlands. Every day, two to three women are diagnosed with this and one dies every day
one of them from the effects of cervical cancer. The fact that
cervical cancer is caused by a persistent infection of the HPV virus,
also offers possibilities in the prevention of this type of cancer. Vaccination of young people
against the virus and regular screening for HPV (from the age of 30) are of great importance and a very effective prevention.
Guest speaker
During this evening, Dr. Michelle Meijer, volunteer at Stichting Olijf, explains about HPV and the role this virus plays in the development of cervical cancer, among other things. It also explains why (early) vaccination against this virus is so important.
For whom
Everyone who is directly or indirectly affected by this is welcome. Young girls are eligible for vaccination against the prevention of the high-risk types of HPV. Both girls and boys between the ages of 18 and 27 are being made aware of the HPV virus through a catch-up campaign to prevent further spread. It is good for parents of these groups to know that the vaccine is absolutely safe and very effective. Women between the ages of 30 and 60 can be screened. A negative HPV result means you are safe for at least ten years. Such a result gives a sense of security. In short: Mothers, daughters, husbands and fathers: this concerns everyone.
