(CNN) — When Terry Sanderson lost his lawsuit against Gwyneth Paltrow he was “very disappointed” but apparently things ended on good terms between the two.
On Thursday, a Utah jury found in favor of Paltrow, finding her not responsible for a 2016 ski collision with Sanderson, a retired optician. And at the end of the trial, Paltrow, who also won her countersuit, put his hand on Sanderson’s back and said something about her as she left the courtroom.
The words were revealed by Sanderson later to reporters outside the courthouse.
“His exact words: ‘I wish you the best,’” Sanderson said. “That was very nice of him.”
“Thank you, dear,” the man replied.
Sanderson said he was “very disappointed” by the verdict, saying “you get some assumed credibility from being a famous person.”
“Who wants to take on a celebrity? No wonder I hesitated, right? It’s hard,” Sanderson said of the trial against Paltrow, the award-winning actress. an Oscar for the 1999 film Shakespeare in Love.
“Who wants to do that? Someone who learns lines, learns to play someone else’s role and be believable, be believable, win awards? Who wants to go that way?” she added.
Paltrow maintained throughout the trial that Sanderson skied directly into her back and caused the crash. When the man was asked if he believed the actress was lying, he replied: “I think she believes she has the truth.”
Paltrow did not speak to reporters after the trial, but released a statement through her attorneys.
“I felt that accepting a false claim compromised my integrity,” Paltrow said in her statement. “I am pleased with the outcome and appreciate all the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and I thank them for their consideration in handling this case,” she added.
