Severe weather warning for southern Hesse issued by DWD

The DWD issues a severe weather warning for parts of southern Hesse. The constant rain causes flooding in many rivers.

Gießen – The low over Hesse also causes rain at the weekend – so much that the German Weather Service (DWD) and the Hessian State Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG) warn of flooding and flooded roads in Offenbach and the surrounding area. The DWD has issued a storm warning of “continuous heavy rain” for parts of southern Hesse. “Close all windows and doors,” writes the weather service on its website.

The state office announced on Saturday morning that reporting level 1 was exceeded at 16 levels in Hesse. According to HLNUG, the rivers Lahn, Fulda, Kinzig and Nidda and their tributaries are affected by the flood.

Gusts of wind and continuous rain in southern Hesse

In addition, the weather service warns of gusts of wind in the region around Offenbach, Hanau and Darmstadt. Occasionally branches could fall. Basically, you should watch out for falling objects.

“Storm gusts with speeds between 65 km/h and 75 km/h are coming from the south-west. In exposed locations, gusts of wind up to 85 km/h must be expected,” writes the DWD in Offenbach.

Continuous rain in southern Hesse: It will also be raining on Sunday

It will remain rainy in Hesse tomorrow as well. The continuous rain warning from the DWD is initially valid until Sunday (April 2), 8 a.m. The water levels in the inner Hessian waters would continue to rise in many places on Sunday, the State Agency for Nature Conservation announced. “In isolated cases, exceeding of reporting level 2 cannot be ruled out.
