What we do ourselves…
As far as Signify is concerned, such job losses are no longer such big news. In the meantime, all allusions to light have already been reviewed in the newspaper articles.
From the moment it turned out that Turnhout would not play a role in the production of LED lamps, it was written in the stars, light years from here, that the light was gradually going out at Signify. And that it is only a matter of time before the latter turns off the lights in the factory in Turnhout.
But Janssen Pharmaceutica. That’s another pair of pills.
That was one of those leading companies. Even here there is an R&D department. So research. Not just any manual labor. But our brains doing the work.
In other words, that kind of work that we always say is our future, here in the Kempen, and by extension Flanders. If they start pruning there too…
Only, of course, Janssen Pharmaceutica has long since ceased to belong to Dr. Paul. Just as we once sold our gas and electricity abroad.
Not that we should completely withdraw ourselves. I don’t think it’s that much better in a country that does, for example. A country like North Korea, for example.
Although I have to admit that I have never enjoyed a cocktail under a palm tree. No idea even if that kind of tourism is possible.
But sometimes there may be some truth in the wisdom of good old well-known Roger: what we do ourselves, we do better.
So hand to the plow. Here. Now. We.
I mean that figuratively and not too literally. Because we will have to do it with our knowledge.
With research and development. With innovation and always new techniques.
Because as far as that plow is concerned, our farmers are not too confident when it comes to their job (and their lives).
