Chelsea star may land in Liverpool’s bag

Liverpool would be eyeing an attacking midfielder from Chelsea, with a view to the transfer window. The Reds would be in pole position to recruit him, despite the interest of the two Manchesters.

Liverpool are preparing for a busy summer transfer window after a disappointing and trophyless season. Jürgen Klopp, the Reds manager, knows that a major overhaul of his squad is needed. And the focus should be on strengthening the midfield.

According to information collected by The Athletic, a prime target stands out this spring: Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount. Trained at the club, the player played 192 games and scored 33 goals for the Blues. He also delivered 37 assists.

An uncertain future at Chelsea

Mason Mount is in a delicate situation, in the London club. His contract expires in the summer of 2024, and discussions for an extension are slow to conclude. The midfielder would like a salary of around 280,000 euros per week, but Chelsea have not yet responded to this request.

If the two parties do not find an agreement during the next negotiations, the England international (36 caps, 5 caps) could be placed on the transfer list. Manchester United and Manchester City are also said to be interested in the player, but Liverpool appear to be leading the race.

Liverpool’s interest in Mason Mount would therefore be very serious. But the player will not be easily transferred by Chelsea. The Blues bosses are reportedly hoping to get almost €70m for their midfielder. While Liverpool would be ready to offer around 40 million euros to secure his services. The media think that the negotiations could succeed for an amount close to 50 million euros.

The arrival of Mason Mount would be a big blow for the Reds, on the transfer market. His experience and versatility would certainly be appreciated in the midfield of Jürgen Klopp’s team, which is struggling this season.
