Rudolf Sloboda is one of the most unique Slovak writers of the 20th century. He grew up in a Slovak village and had Croatian-Slovak blood in his veins. Thanks to this, both the wild nature and the troubled circumstances of his life were imprinted in his prose. Sloboda’s mother, for example, gradually outlived her three partners, which Sloboda examines and thematizes in a number of her novels.
The novel was published in Slovak in 1990. Five years later, a lonely and troubled Sloboda voluntarily left his life. Rubato was translated into Czech by Tereza Boučková, in Četba with a star we will hear Taťjana Medvecká in the lead role.
Taťjana Medvecká is nominated in the ongoing poll Invisible actor/actress of the century.
