Dortmund – Borussia Dortmund, the leader of the German Football League (Bundesliga), will regain many of its key players in the summit match against Bayern Munich, second place, which is scheduled to be held on Saturday, but doubts remain about the participation of Nico Schloterbeck.
Dortmund leads the standings with 53 points, one point ahead of Bayern Munich, the defending champions.
Dortmund return goalkeeper Gregor Copil, midfielders Julian Brandt, Salih Ozcan and Emre Can, and strikers Karim Adeyemi and Yousufa Moukoko, who were absent from the team’s 6-1 win over Cologne before the international break.
The absence of Giovanni Reina and Thomas Meunier continues, while doubts remain about the participation of Schlotterbeek, after he suffered a muscle strain and hamstring problems while he was with his country.
“We will see who will travel to Munich in the last session today,” Edin Terzic said in a press conference today, Friday.
Dortmund has not defeated Bayern Munich since 2018, and was last crowned the league title in 2012. Since then, Bayern Munich has won all the league titles, setting a record by winning the title ten times in a row.
But Terzic is confident that Dortmund can emerge from tomorrow’s match as a winner, especially since his team has not lost this year.
He said: “What makes me confident in particular is the energy that we have developed. It is because of our run, for example, and the many good results. We know our chance, and we want to take it.”
But the coach stressed that the match in Munich will not decide the winner of the title.
And he added, “We enter the match with one goal, which is to do everything we can. We can send a signal – to ourselves and to the opponents. Tomorrow’s match may set a direction, but it will not determine everything.”
Bayern Munich lost to Bayer Leverkusen before the international break, and this result led to the dismissal of coach Julian Nagelsmann. Thomas Tuchel took charge of Bayern, who will lead Bayern for the first time against his former team, Dortmund.
Terzic said, “We watched Bayern’s matches and also Chelsea’s matches when he was led by Tuchel. Of course, Bayern wants to present a great level, so we must prepare well.”
