Fake WhatsApp Scheme: Someone Impersonating the First Lady Lures Victims with 700,000 CFA Francs

Scam via WhatsApp: A person pretends to be the first lady and offers 700,000 CFA francs to his prey

Through the number 70 549 13…, a person pretends to be the first lady Marième Faye Sall. The number holder contacted several women in Mbour to offer his help.

O. Diop, one of the victims, warns about this scam attempt and presents the messages received.

Indeed, the modus operandi of the usurper is to first send this text message: “Dear compatriots, this is your Senegalese first lady (Faye Sall Marième), known by all Senegalese citizens, it is a mistake on my part because I just wanted to contact the number of one of my citizens who had spoken to me about financial aid and then it fell on your number, it seems that you are lucky to meet me at least. Allah bless you.” This is the message people are getting.

Once contact has been established, the usurper exchanges with his prey and says to him: “I would like to help you with a sum of 700,000 CFA francs, but you must pay a disbursement fee to recover your money. I ask you, how much you have on you for my handler to release you.”

Then, “Click the link at the bottom to enter my private bank account manager’s WhatsApp. If you write them, tell them it’s from me. I’ve already sent a commission to Ecobank management followed by your name and first names so that he can transfer 700,000 fcfa to you. Okay, your money is ready but without this small fee you cannot take my dear”.
