The BAFTA Awards may not be as well known as The Game Awards, but they are still among the most prestigious awards in the world of video games. Yesterday granted during the ceremony and produced interesting results. The absolute winner was Vampire Survivors, which managed to beat God of War Ragnarök. God of War, on the other hand, took home six more awards – the most of any nominee. In total, God of War sought victory in 14 categories. He had the most nominations in BAFTA history.
Developers from the Santa Monica Studio team won awards for best animation, sound, music, and for leading and supporting actors. In addition, they also won the prize, which is the only one “awarded” by the public through voting. In addition to the prize for the absolute winner, Vampire Survivors also scored in the best design category.
Elden Ring had to settle for two statuettes for best new brand and multiplayer, where it beat typical winners in the form of online events. Tunic was just as successful, but in the categories of best debut and artistic contribution. Immortality by Sam Barlow won the award for best story. The surprise was that Stray didn’t get a single win despite multiple nominations. Elden Ring had seven nominations, Stray even eight.
Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida received the BAFTA Fellowship, which is awarded for outstanding long-term contribution. He received a standing ovation and said that indie developers should keep dreaming because their next game could change the gaming industry forever.
In his acceptance speech after winning the Best Actor category, actor Christopher Judge called on gamers to end the console wars. He pointed out that there are more things that unite players than divide them. “It doesn’t matter what platform you love, what game you love, you’re still part of the gaming community, so take it easy,” he said. Of course, he did not forget to thank the fans for their support.
