Angèle unveiled this Wednesday the clip of the title “Time will do things”, from her album “Nonante-five La suite”, released last November. A video, co-signed by choreographer Mehdi Kerkouche, in which the pop star rubbed shoulders with contemporary dance, confident that she had left her comfort zone for her greatest pleasure.
A new challenge. “For the first time in a long time, I chose a less comfortable, less mastered terrain, of my own free will, and it gave me this rather new and pleasant feeling of lightness”, notes the pop star in a press release. And for good reason, under the leadership of Mehdi Kerkouche, today at the head of the National Choreographic Center of Créteil, the singer has indeed rubbed shoulders with contemporary dance, solo and in duo, in her new clip “Le time will do things”, unveiled this Wednesday.
A project born after being moved to tears by attending a performance of a show by Mehdi Kerkouche, whose duets of two women of different ages, dancing freely, echoed what she wanted to put into images in her title “Time will do things”, notes the interpreter of “Balance your what”. A performance which led the artist to express himself through dance to illustrate this song which evokes the family and the passage of time, which soothes, which heals, which also separates, she underlines.
Express yourself other than through music
A new exercise according to Angèle. “I was still able to count on Mehdi to accompany me in this fairly new exercise; dance with someone in a duet, dance to express these feelings, dance to illustrate the song and its text”, notes the 27-year-old singer, who is more accustomed to evolving on stage in “a generally more pop and festive, but much less in this more intimate, soloist context, almost face to face with the camera”.
An experience which obviously seduced the artist and which she hopes to repeat. “I can’t wait to continue exploring this feeling of dancing when you’re not a dancer, the freedom it offers not to follow the codes because you don’t know them. Expressing myself through an art other than music or singing, and forgetting yourself for a few minutes”, underlines the artist, who is preparing to fly next month to the United States, where a another challenge awaits. The Belgian singer will indeed perform for two dates at the Coachella festival, on April 14 and 21. A first in the career of Angèle, winner of two new Victoires de la Musique last February.
