Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
North Korea reported dead execusion citizens for drug crimes, spreading a number of videos from South Koreauntil caught doing religious activities.
The report was revealed by the Ministry of Unification of South Korea on Thursday (30/3). In a 450-page report, the ministry said there were more than 500 North Koreans who fled to South Korea from 2017-2022.
“North Korean citizens’ right to life appears to be gravely threatened,” the ministry’s report was quoted as saying.
“Execution is widely used for unjustified acts such as drug crimes, distribution of South Korean videos, and religious and superstitious activities,” the report added.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said the report should make the international community even clearer about North Korea’s “horrific” abuses.
He said North Korea did not deserve “one penny” of economic aid while still pursuing its ambitions to develop missile and nuclear weapons.
Reuters could not independently verify South Korea’s findings.
However, reports like this are in line with United Nations (UN) investigations and reports of non-governmental organizations so far regarding allegations of North Korea’s human rights violations.
North Korea rejects any criticism of the condition of upholding human rights in its territory and calls it an attempt to overthrow the leader of the communist regime.
