“Both the left and the right have had to compromise,” says political journalist Johny Vansevenant. “The government will reduce the budget deficit by 1.75 billion. The last tranche of the minimum pension will now largely remain intact, which appears to be a compromise for all parties. The last tranche of the lowest benefits has been completely scrapped.
“There are a total of about seventy measures to reduce the shortage,” says Vansevenant. “For example, 200 million unused reserves for healthcare will be scrapped. Multinationals will be taxed at 15 percent, amounting to about 300 million euros. And there will be an increase in excise duties on tobacco.”
“Temporary unemployment will also be monitored more strictly, you will no longer be able to refuse a suitable job if you have received training and the so-called sickness pension will disappear for those who fall ill at a young age.”
