Pertamina Denies Substantial Pollution of Mataram Waters due to Fire Incident on Oil Tanker.

Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) is awaiting results of an investigation into the fire on the MT Kristin ship in Mataram waters on 26 March, before calculating potential losses. The ship had been carrying Pertamina’s Pertalite fuel cargo. The National Transportation Safety Committee conducted investigations into the incident from 28-29 March. PIS reports no significant contamination has been found in the waters, and that the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has taken samples and is waiting results of tests on the water. PIS has said that it initially believed the fire originated in the forecastle or front mooring deck, but further investigations are ongoing.
