A major Dublin criminal suspected of being the getaway driver in a murder attempt is unlikely to face prosecution after two alleged accomplices were acquitted due to lack of evidence. Steven Mulvey and Jamie Berry were accused of the attempted murder and possession of a Beretta pistol in a shooting that occurred in south-inner city Dublin early in 2021. However, a jury found them not guilty after the direction of Ms. Justice Eileen Creedon because the prosecution’s evidence was “not sufficiently strong enough”. The on-the-run suspect, who is a notorious mobster with multiple criminal convictions, is believed to be the mastermind behind the murder plot. Despite hopes of charges, the suspect is now unlikely to be prosecuted. Detectives believe the murder plot was ordered by a young drug dealer from the Pearse Street area of the city. CCTV footage of the movements of the vehicles had been played to the jury over three days of the trial, but no footage of the shooting at Eugene Street has been produced by the prosecution.
