Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Case bird flu in Chile recently discovered in humans. A 53-year-old man was reported to have contracted the virus which originated from the bird.
Chile’s Ministry of Health has just reported the findings of bird flu cases that attack humans on Wednesday (29/3).
Launch Reuters, this is the first case that occurred in humans. Previously, the country had only reported cases of H5N1 bird flu in wild animals.
The patient is said to have influenza-like symptoms, but in a more severe stage. However, the man is currently reported to be in a stable condition.
The government is also continuing to investigate the source of transmission of the virus. They also continue to monitor people who have had direct contact with these patients.
According to Wio News, cases of bird flu in Chile have indeed been reported several times. However, transmission only occurs in poultry and wild animals.
The most recent animal-related case also occurred on an industrial farm. Many animals on the farm contracted bird flu. As a result, the government had to stop exporting poultry to a number of countries.
Earlier this year, Ecuador also confirmed its first case of human transmission of bird flu in a 9-year-old girl. Local health officials say the risk of human-to-human transmission is low, but vaccine makers have prepared bird flu shots for humans as a precaution.
Although currently Indonesia has not reported findings of cases of the same disease, cases of bird flu, such as what happened in Chile, must still be watched out for.
