“Don’t change something that has proven successful in the market” seems like a sound marketing strategy for any product. Why should a company that is clearly making big profits from a product that is selling well in the market have to replace it with a new formula? But for some cases in the gaming industry, this statement does not apply. There are not a few developers out there who are “crazy” enough to present a new series in a franchise by ignoring all the elements that made the previous series successful. One of the best case examples? Resident Evil 4 from Capcom.
No longer dealing with zombies that were introduced in the previous three main series, the camera system has changed to become over the shoulder, so that a thicker sense of action sounds like a nightmare for the fourth series that carries the name Resident Evil. But who would have thought that the revolution offered by Capcom for games that launched on the GameCube for the first time would end up being a huge success. Not only is it popular and selling well, its status has even grown into a legendary game that has become the standard that other popular games want to follow. Even crazier? Capcom wants to redo it.
Confirmation of the remake process for Resident Evil 4 naturally raises hopes and worries at the same time. For a series that at the beginning could be called a “miracle” because of the really significant formula changes, Capcom of course has a heavy responsibility and task to ensure that the remake process can capture the same appeal. This means ensuring that the final product will at least end up not harming a legacy of quality and history that the original series has offered. The good news? What happened was just the opposite.
So, what does Resident Evil 4 Remake actually offer? Why do we call it a series that manages to repeat a miracle? This review will discuss it deeper for you.
Plot
The remake process offered at Capcom does not necessarily change the side of the story significantly from the original series. You will indeed meet with sequences that are added or removed, with the fate of Leon and supporting characters that are slightly different, but in the end – the general story will land in the same place as the original version.
The story still revolves around the actions of Leon S. Kennedy, who after his event in Raccoon City is now asked to find and save the daughter of the president of the United States named Ashley Graham. Ashley is believed to have disappeared in a village in Europe which, oh it turns out, has a horror that Leon had never predicted before. That instead of just farming and raising livestock, the villagers have a hobby of catching humans and burning them like a bonfire in the middle of the village. Leon, who was trying to save himself, found that every resident of this village needed several bullets and kicks to be destroyed.
A deeper search process makes Leon find a heretical religious organization called Los Illuminados which uses a parasite called Las Plagas to make them grow beyond ordinary humans. For some reason, this organization headed by a priest named Saddler shows great interest in Ashley. The search also makes Leon have to go through various obstacles that are almost unreasonable, from humans with sharp tentacles, large trolls, giant fish, to his former mentor who has now decided to stand behind Los Illuminados.
Then, what actually happened? Can Leon save Ashley? What is the source of Las Plagas? Why is Ashley so important in the Los Illuminados plan? You can get all the answers to these questions by playing Resident Evil 4 Remake.
