Kia has officially introduced its first electric SUV, the Kia EV9 globally. The Kia EV9 is equipped with a battery with a large enough capacity. The range is quite far.
The Long Range version of the Kia EV9 is equipped with a 99.8 kWh battery. For the 2WD Long Range type, the range with one charge reaches 541 km. That means, the Kia EV9 can cover the distance from Jakarta to Solo with one charge. To note, the distance from Jakarta to Solo is around 534 km.
In fact, according to Sang Lee, Kia’s Senior Product Planning Manager, his party provides ultra-fast charging. With this charging system, it only takes 15 minutes to charge the car and you can drive from Jakarta to Cirebon (the distance from Jakarta to Cirebon is about 219 km).
“Only by charging for 15 minutes, you can cover a distance of up to 239 km thanks to the 800 volt ultra fast charging system,” said Sang Lee at the press conference for the global launch of the Kia EV9, Tuesday (28/3/2023).
The Kia EV9 is also offered in an all-wheel drive (AWD) version. Kia claims, thanks to the dual electric motors, the Kia EV9 has a maximum power of 283 kW (379.5 HP) with a maximum torque of 600 Nm for the Long Range AWD version. This version also has a towing capacity of up to 2.5 tonnes.
Sang Lee Senior said, Kia EV9 is ready to be used anywhere. In fact, even able to be taken on an adventure.
“The EV9 is ready for your adventure, thanks to a highly advanced traction control system, and in certain global markets there is Auto Terrain Mode,” he said.
The Kia EV9 can also be used as an emergency power bank. The Kia EV9 has a Vehicle to Load feature with a power output of 3.68 kW. This car can be a source of electricity for electronic products such as laptops or even camping equipment.
The new Kia EV9 will go on sale in the second quarter of 2023 (April-June 2023). It has just opened pre-orders in South Korea. While other markets will follow later.
“We plan to start pre-ordering the EV9 in the Korean market in the second quarter of 2023. Then it will be introduced in several countries in the second semester, such as Europe, North and South America, Asia Pacific and the Middle East,” said Kia President & CEO Ho Sung Song.
About the price, Ho Sung Song has not disclosed it. According to him, the price will be released when the car is ready to be marketed.
“Because we look at the situation and factors to determine the optimal price for our consumers,” he said.
