The upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie has people wondering about the voice of Donkey Kong. In an interview with Comicbook.com, Seth Rogen, DK’s voice actor, revealed that he used his regular voice for the character. There was no effort made to change Rogen’s voice, as was the case with Mario’s voice actor.

Seth Rogen: “I was very clear, I don’t do voices. And if you want me to be in this movie, it’s gonna sound like me and that’s it. And that was the beginning and end of that conversation. I was like, ‘If you want Donkey Kong to sound a lot like me, I’m your guy.’ But it did seem to work, you know, I think in the film and in the game I think all you really know about Donkey Kong is that he throws barrels and he does not like Mario very much.”

Rogen’s voice as Donkey Kong can be heard in one of the recent trailers, and it is unmistakably his. Rogen describes the relationship between Mario and DK as “adversarial” and speculates that DK would likely prefer to embark on his own adventures.

The movie will feature Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and a “special voice appearance” by the video game voice of Mario, Charles Martinet.

In conclusion, Seth Rogen’s upcoming role as Donkey Kong has certainly caused a stir among fans of the iconic Mario franchise. While some have voiced their concerns, Rogen remains confident in his ability to bring his own unique spin to the character. As he stated, “It’s gonna sound like me and that’s it.” Whether or not audiences will warm up to his portrayal remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure – Rogen’s unmistakable voice is sure to leave an impression on viewers. So, let’s sit back and prepare to hear Donkey Kong like we’ve never heard him before.
