Significantly, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh had on Monday given an ultimatum to the AAP government asking them to release the Sikh youths caught during police action against Amritpal Singh and his associates within 24 hours. The Jathedar also criticized the state government for invoking the National Security Act (NSA) against some people during the police action.

On March 18, the Jathedar of Akal Takht in Amritsar, Amritpal Singh and his organization ‘Waris Punjab De’ Sikh organizations, intellectuals, Sikh lawyers, journalists, religious and social leaders were called to discuss the situation related to action against. Criticizing the Jathedar on the ultimatum, Mann tweeted in Punjabi language, ‘Jathedar Shri Akal Takht Sahib Ji. Everyone knows you and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has been taking the side of the Badal family.
