The affordability of hardware rentals was made possible by Starlink, with a trade-off in the form of speed limitations.

Until now, when ordering Starlink satellite internet, you had to pay the full amount for the hardware. Although the provider increased the original price of CZK 13,000 to CZK 15,600 a year ago, the amount gradually fell to CZK 11,000, CZK 9,100 and now the price is 7 360 CZK. After paying the amount, the hardware (satellite dish and router) becomes your property. Thus, the monthly fee of CZK 1,400 for the standard tariff will remain unchanged for the time being.

But now Starlink has introduced a second option to purchase hardware, which can be rented from Monday. It charges CZK 370 per month for the service, while the price of the basic service does not change – it will thus reach the amount of CZK 1,770. At the same time, however, you need to pay extra for a one-time activation fee of CZK 1,230, which Starlink does not charge for a one-time purchase.

If you want to purchase Starlink permanently, you will pay a one-time payment of CZK 7,930 for hardware and shipping. When renting, he asks for an additional activation fee

The provider currently charges 570 CZK for delivery. Last year, he abolished postage for a limited time, on the other hand, when introducing the service to the Czech market, he demanded 1,766 CZK for delivery.

Just for comparison, we tried placing the same order in California. There, including tax, Starlink will charge a total of 708.22 dollars (15,450 CZK) instead of 7,930 CZK. Renting in the United States is not available at all, and users there pay 2,600 CZK per month for satellite internet by money order. The promised adaptation to local markets is apparently working for now.

Starlink has not yet introduced FUP for ordinary resident customers in our territory, as happened in the fall in the United States and Canada. Conversely, a monthly limit of 1 TB already applies to Business and Mobility tariffs. After it is used up, the speed will either drop to 1 Mb/s, or you will pay an additional 8.63 CZK for each additional gigabyte. Although Starlink does not limit downloaded data for residents, it does limit the maximum speed for the entire month – to website it gives an upper limit of 100 Mbps for download and 15 Mbps for upload. For business customers, the maximum speeds are 2.5 times higher, and when it was launched on the Czech market, we squeezed up to 270 Mb/s from Starlink.
