SpainHotel worker discriminates against Morocco’s national team on Instagram and is arrested
The 27-year-old Spaniard was arrested in Madrid on Sunday and may face hate crime charges.
In Spain, a hotel worker has been arrested for posting racist comments online about the Moroccan national football team staying there. The 27-year-old Spaniard was arrested at the Madrid hotel around midnight on Sunday and may face hate crime charges, a police spokeswoman said on Monday.
Accordingly, the police officers were called to the hotel after the hotel management complained about the racist remarks on the Internet. Spanish media released photos showing several national team players in the hotel dining room, which the clerk posted on Instagram with racist comments. Among other things, he seriously insulted the fasting month of Ramadan and the players of the team.
Reports of the publication sparked outrage in Morocco, which earlier this month had joined Spain and Portugal in a bid to host the 2030 World Cup.
The hotel worker reportedly deleted the posts from his Instagram profile and apologized online before being arrested. Morocco are set to play Peru at Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano stadium on Tuesday.
