The Portuguese ministry of the economy has launched an initiative designed to increase the number of workers in the country’s tourism sector by 20%. The agenda for the sector, which was presented by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Commerce and Services, involves the introduction of 20 measures, including a national plan to modernise hotel and tourism schools and the creation of an international tourism academy. The aim is to increase by 10% the number of tourism professionals with secondary and higher education, raise by 15% the number of tourism students across all levels of education, and create 20% more jobs in the sector.
