Poultry prices in the market fell by about 7 pounds today, Monday, compared to their levels yesterday, according to Abdel Aziz Al-Sayed, head of the poultry division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, to Masrawy.

According to the head of the division, the price of a kilo of white poultry at the farm fell to between 61 and 62 pounds today, Monday, compared to 67 pounds yesterday.

Poultry is sold in the markets today at about 68 pounds per kilo to the consumer, compared to 75 pounds yesterday, according to Abdel Aziz Al-Sayed.

Al-Sayed attributed the decrease in prices to the decline in purchase demand by citizens, after it witnessed a significant increase during the last period.

The prices of white poultry witnessed a big jump in the market, with the price per kilo reaching more than 80 pounds, due to the jump in fodder prices and its shortage in the market.

The rise in feed prices and the import crisis during the past months caused a shortage in the supply of poultry and eggs and a significant jump in their prices.

Regarding the price of eggs today, Monday, Al-Sayed said that the price of a carton of eggs at the farm decreased to between 94 and 102 pounds, compared to 104 pounds last week, as the carton is sold in the market at a price between 100 and 110 pounds.

Egypt produces about 1.6 billion birds annually, and this production achieves self-sufficiency by about 95%, and the gap between production and consumption does not exceed 5%, according to data from the Poultry Division previously.
