NEW YORK.- The Minister of Sports and Recreation of the Dominican Republic, Francisco Camacho, promised to support the development of the Patriotic Games in New York.
Camacho spoke like this during the act where he swore in the members of the organizing committee of the fair and of which the Dominican consul in the New York city, Eligio Jáquez, is a part.
“God’s time is perfect; This was the time for us to visit this city, which we could say is the fifth province of the Dominican Republic. We have never forgotten the Dominicans of New York, because now we have come to announce that we are going to support the Patriotic Games,” said the minister.
He assured that the Dominican government has a commitment to the Dominican community abroad, for which he affirmed that he will raise the situation with President Luis Abinader to achieve broader support.
«If I have to come to ask, I will come to ask for the games to be a success. I have never asked for myself, but the great Dominican leader José Francisco Peña Gómez taught me that it is necessary to ask for the benefit of the Dominican people”, he said.
Camacho defended the investment in sports that President Luis Abinader has made and assured that more than 1,500 facilities have been intervened by the Government since August 2020.
He recalled that sport in the Dominican Republic remained paralyzed for a year due to the covid-19 pandemic, since the government’s priority was health and that President Abinader acted responsibly and the results are known to all.
“We gave 235 million to the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) a year before the Tokyo Olympic Games and everyone knows the results: five medals never before obtained by Dominican sports in a multidisciplinary event of that level. A historical milestone », he affirmed.
