Army in Ukraine asks residents of Avdijivka to evacuate the city.

ATTACK: A building is on fire after being hit by a Russian airstrike in Avdijivka on March 17.

On orders from the Ukrainian army, municipal employees have to leave the small town of Avdijivka in the east of the country, after it has been hit by Russian attacks.

“Unfortunately, Avdijivka has increasingly been transformed into a crime scene for post-apocalyptic scenes,” says military commander Vitalij Barabash on Sunday. Due to the constant attacks, the city has become looking like a moonscape, according to him.

Therefore, it has been decided to evacuate the municipal employees who have made sure to keep the city running.

– I strongly recommend leaving the city, as Russian rockets and grenades do not spare anything or anyone, says Barabash.

Avdijivka had around 32,000 inhabitants before the Russian invasion. It is located a few kilometers north of the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk.
